Eureka Springs is not the birthplace of the Blues, but over 30 performers will be belting out authentic down-home tunes for the Eureka Springs Blues Festival June 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Renowned blues artists such as Little Joe McLerran and IBC Winner Lionel Young are among the world-class blues talent scheduled to appear. Performances will be held at over 10 different venues all over town including the Eureka Springs Auditorium, The Barefoot Ballroom, Basin Spring Park and several clubs. Weekend passes and individual show tickets are available.

The rain has been plentiful and all the plants and flowers are so green and lush. It’s been a beautiful spring and should make for marvelous fall color later this year. Don’t believe the bad news reports. Eureka Springs isn’t flooded and is open and ready for business. The natural springs are beautiful and flowing right now. If you are a photography enthusiast, now is a great time to take advantage of this rare opportunity to capture some spectacular shots.

The May Festival of the Arts is held the entire month. Come celebrate the art of Eureka Springs in all its forms. Dozens of exhibits, artist’s receptions and demonstrations, Gallery Strolls, annual White Street Studio Walk, free concerts and much more are part of this month’s city-wide festival. This year’s premier performance of the Great Passion Play will commence on May 6th. Among the many other events are a plant sale, car shows, a parade, War Eagle Craft Show, a bike show and much more!

I want to thank everyone that has voted on our food poll. It seems that there is a growing demand for healthier foods while people are on vacation. We intend to take your input to heart and adjust our recipes accordingly, so stay tuned as we gradually work on perfecting them. Springtime In The Ozarks

Everyone looks forward to springtime, especially after the long hard winter we just had. From spring break vacations to the redbuds and dogwoods blooming, it’s a special time to experience at our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast. Eureka Springs Redbud

Along with all of nature’s beauty, the 35th Annual Springtime In The Ozarks AA Convention will be held in Eureka Springs April 14th thru 17th. Multiple speakers from at least 7 states are scheduled Thursday through Sunday. This annual gathering is well attended and includes a ice cream social on Thursday night, a Dance and Bingo on Friday and Saturday nights as well as marathon meetings at the Coffee Pot in Eureka Springs.

Eureka Springs Mardis Gras Festival

This year’s 6th Annual Eureka Gras Mardi Gras Parade theme is “Alice in Wonderland.” Multi-colored floats, costumed walkers, bands and more parade through historic downtown starting at 2 p.m. Mar. 5. The costume contest follows at the New Delhi Café bandstand; cash and other prizes will be awarded. Admission to both the parade and the costume contest is free.

The festival gets underway with the colorful Krewe of Krazo Hookers & Jokers Ball Mar. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center. Everyone is welcome to attend the event, which features a Creole buffet, cash bar, and music by Swing And A Miss. Party goers are asked to dress as either “Hookers or Jokers,” “Guys and Dolls,” or “Freakin Eurekan.” Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door; Eureka Springs Mardis Gras Parade

March 4, the Krewe of Krazo Coronation Ball and Masquerade Dance takes place at 6 p.m. at the 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa’s Crystal Ballroom. The Promenade and Grand March of the 2011 Eureka Gras King, Queen and Royal Court will be the evening highlight. A New Orleans buffet dinner will be served. A cash bar will be available. Tickets are $35 and reservations are required. The Beaux Arts Ball follows that evening at 7 p.m. at the 1905 Basin Park Hotel’s Barefoot Ballroom. Patterned after the world famous Parisian Artists Masquerade Ball, the dance features the music of Rosie Ledet Zydeco. Tickets are $25.of Krazo will lead the parade and other walking groups include the “Krewe of Kidz” and the canine “Krewe of Barkus.”

Festivities continue Mar. 6 with the Eureka Gras Jazz Brunch at the Crescent Hotel’s Crystal Dining Room from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees can greet the Kings and Queens of Krazo in 2nd line and hear music by the Crescent Jazz Ensemble. Reservations are required; call 479-253-7837.

New to this year’s festival is Arti Gras; an exhibit of “tastefully risqué” art by 15 local artists, hosted by Roi Regency in full regal attire. The display will be at the Basin Park Hotel Mar. 7 from 6-8 p.m. “Eureka Springs is Mid-America’s Art Capitol,” organizer Dan Ellis explained. “And so we felt Eureka Gras wouldn’t be complete without celebrating the amazing artists who live and work here.” The event is free and there will be a cash bar.

Eureka Springs Antique Show and Sale

The 22nd Annual Eureka Springs Fall Antique Show and Sale this November 20 and 21st will feature Handel and Tiffany lamps, pre 1930’s! This popular show is known for the wide variety of antiques and has drawn customers from as many as 22 different states. This fall dealers are traveling to Eureka Springs from 14 different states for this important antique weekend. Festivities start at 5:30 p.m. Friday November 19th with a Wine and Cheese Preview Show and Sale. The cost is $10 per person which comes with a weekend pass. Saturday show hours are 10 to 6 and Sunday hours 10 to 4, admission is $2.50

“Antiques are a good investment and have held their value and in some cases have grown considerably” according to Dave and Jane Baker, show managers. The Best Western Inn of the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, Arkansas hosts this bi-yearly event, the third weekend in March and the third weekend in November each year. See you there!

Carroll County “Shop With A Cop” Fundraiser

A benefit show for the Carroll County “Shop With A Cop” program was held November 10th in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department “Shop With A Cop” program provides Christmas presents for Carroll County children who wouldn’t otherwise have one this year. The sheriff’s department takes these children shopping each year to ensure that no child goes without on Christmas Day. The goal is to raise enough funds to make sure no needy child is turned away this year.

It’s November already and year-ending events are filling the Eureka Springs calendar. The 63rd Annual Folk Festival is this weekend and features free concerts and a craft show in the park. Eliza Gilkyson headlines the featured show at the Auditorium Nov. 6. The Barefoot Ball returns to the 1905 Basin Park Hotel by popular demand Nov. 5. And a talent show competition will be inaugurated Nov. 4 as part of a free show at the Auditorium.

Eureka Springs Chili Cookoff

A new group is planning a chili cookoff, along with other events, as part of an “All American Weekend” in Eureka Springs Nov. 5-7.

The “First Annual International Society Sanctioned Chili Cookoff” will include, besides cookoff contests, a cruise-in, parade, poker run, veterans’ ride, a free show at Ozark Mountain Hoedown on Saturday night, a street dance, vendors, raffles and drawings. A “People’s Choice” chili cookoff will kick off the weekend Friday afternoon, Nov. 5, with everyone invited to participate and compete.

The main event, the sanctioned International Chili Society Cookoff, will offer red chili and two salsa entries, regular and verde, by members of the International Chili Society. Judging for that event will take place on Saturday. The winners will go on to the state competition. A live D.J. spinning records and giving away prizes will be part of the festivities Friday and Saturday. Event will be located at the Victorian Inn parking lot at 4028 E Van Buren in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

We’re looking forward to the crisp nights and warm days that will make the leaves turn. We still don’t know what effect the hot, dry summer will have on the foliage, but luckily we did get some rain late in the summer and everything greened up again. Preview each artist online at the website to get an idea of the ones you want to visit. Then pick up your full color map brochure once you arrive in town for all the details of this years event. The headquarters locations at Eureka Springs School Of The Arts and Practical Magic Art Supply at the Art Colony might be your first stop or visit the Chamber of Commerce or Trolley Depot (both on hwy 62).

14 Studios will be open to the public to offer a unique “behind the scenes” experience with 19 fine artists and fine crafts persons in their working environments in Eureka Springs.

Demonstrations – Artists Q&A – See works in progress and finished work is also available for sale – a great time to do some early holiday shopping.
