Eureka Springs – Voices of the Silent City
The history of Eureka Springs is filled with many colorful characters.
One of the most interesting ways to learn about some of the history of Eureka Springs is to attend the Voices of the Silent City tour, hosted by the Eureka Springs Historical Museum this Friday, May 13th in the Eureka Springs Cemetery. Not intended to be spooky, volunteers in period clothing portray some of the early citizens of Eureka Springs. Some of the characters were pillars of the community and others were figures whose colorful, outrageous or scandalous behavior helped shape the history and the myths of the town. This is an approximately one hour walking tour that includes 5 minute stops with each “citizen.” Tours are scheduled to start around 5:30 p.m. and will leave every twenty minutes, the last one ending at 8:00 p.m.
Tickets may be purchased at the event. Free parking and shuttle service will be available at Eastgate Shopping Center located on Highway 62 East across from Passion Play Road.
This is a wonderful fundraising project of the Historical Museum and proceeds are used to finance daily operations, special exhibits and on-going restoration projects. The all new 2011 fall tour is scheduled for two weekends in October, the 14th & 15th and 28th & 29th.
For more information, call the Museum at 479/253-9417.
